Big Talk One Fire Festival
2021 - 2026
Since 2021, RKPcreative has been the proud creative partner for UMI Arts' Big Talk One Fire First Nations Cultural Festival, held annually in Gimuy/Cairns, Queensland.
Poster design and event promotion are always enjoyable, as they offer an opportunity to go big and bold! I love using typography and, colour and hierarchy principles to create striking imagery that tells a story.
Main Project Elements
Event posters
Billboard advertisements
Program flyers
Event information boards (eg. event maps & stage lineups)
Every year required a fresh vision and style, and as the event grew over the years from a small music festival to a much larger cultural event, I evolved the visual elements accordingly, and using the hero images and brand guide I had developed with the client. The designs underwent a significant refresh & update in 2023, using more impactful imagery and an updated text logo, and new colour scheme to reflect the stronger focus on culture, sharing and learning.

Mystics & Warriors
2024

Written by Margaret Edwards, 'Mystics & Warriors' tells the life story of her late husband, Jim Edwards—a prolific Indigenous artist and activist from South-Eastern Queensland. Featuring over 40 artwork images and personal stories, the book provides a rich and deeply personal account of Jim’s artistic journey, activism, and the experiences that shaped his life.
Main Project Elements
Front & back cover design
Complex page layout design including artworks
In assisting with the design, I worked closely with Margaret through many consultations to thoughtfully arrange the order of stories and artworks. Great care was taken to ensure the narrative flowed in a way that honored Jim’s legacy and told his story with sensitivity and respect.
Keep an eye out for our next book, currently under construction, expanding on the history and culture of the some of the First Nations of South Eastern Queensland.

Exhibition Catalogues & Signage
With a background in Fine Arts, I feel incredibly privileged to help bring artworks and their stories to life through thoughtfully designed exhibition catalogues, wall cards and accompanying print materials for professional gallery exhibitions.
Working closely with organisations, curators and artists, I aim to create layouts that balance strong visual design with clarity, accessibility and respect for each artist’s voice. My approach combines careful typography, considered pacing, high-quality image presentation and cohesive visual storytelling to ensure every publication feels polished, engaging and aligned with the exhibition identity.
Main Project Elements
exhibition catalogue design
wall cards and exhibition signage
artwork layout and image presentation
artist biographies and interpretive text layouts
print-ready publication design
gallery branding and visual consistency
For UMI Arts and independent artists, I have produced more than 25 exhibition catalogues, wall information cards and exhibition visuals, each developed with its own rationale, atmosphere and style. Many of these projects celebrate and document the work of First Nations artists and communities across Far North Queensland, making cultural sensitivity and collaborative consultation an important part of the design process.

Logos, Branding & Packaging
A strong visual identity helps your business feel professional, memorable and consistent across every customer touchpoint. Good branding is not just about having a nice logo — it is about creating a cohesive visual language that reflects your values, connects with your audience and supports long-term growth.
I enjoy helping businesses and organisations uncover the personality behind their brand and translating that into thoughtful, versatile design systems that work across both print and digital platforms. Whether you are launching a new business, refreshing an existing identity, or simply need professional branded materials to support your growth, I can help create designs that feel authentic, polished and aligned with your goals.
Over the years, I have worked with businesses, artists and organisations across a wide range of industries including arts and culture, hospitality, fitness, pet services, landscaping, events and small business retail. Each project is approached individually, with careful consideration given to audience, industry positioning, functionality and visual longevity.
From logo concepts and complete brand kits through to packaging, merchandise and promotional collateral, I aim to create branding that is both visually engaging and practical to use day-to-day. I also provide guidance around typography, colour systems, visual consistency and brand direction to help clients feel confident using their branding into the future.
